To A Fellow Veteran,
Whether you were in the Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force or the Coast Guard,
we all have a few things in common. One is that we are all blind or have low
vision and another is that we graduated from the Augusta Blind Rehabilitation
Center. That puts us in a unique class. In the past, the alumni functions were
part of a yearly celebration hosted by the Blind Rehabilitation Center and its
Staff. Due to downsizing, restructuring of medical facilities and shortages of
funding specialized programs/activities, our purpose must now take a higher
level of organization and status among the community to service veterans in the
states of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, West
Virginia, and Virginia.
We are presently restructuring the Augusta Blind Rehabilitation Center
Alumni Association (ABRCAA) to require less support from the Augusta Blind
Rehabilitation Center and Staff and we will require more support from our
members. Today, the status of our organization is a supportive organization for
blinded veterans. Our goal is to be recognized as a non profit organization for
all blinded rehabilitation center graduates, non graduates, and to receive
contributions and donations from other charities and organizations who also
believe in supportive services for the blinded veteran. Our motto is "Give A
Hoot".
Membership would include a laminated membership card, 4 newsletters a year
and an invitation to the alumni reunion. At the alumni reunion - Now that is
where the fun begins! This is where you get to meet all those friends that you
made in school and meet new friends, other veterans that are just like you. At
the reunion, learn what is new in the world of vision at the health/vision fair,
participate in the daily and nightly activities - dine and wine with friends.
